Why the Stamp Was Issued
The 2015 “Celebrate!” Forever stamp was issued to capture the joy of celebrations. It reflects the exciting atmosphere that accompanies special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, and more. Additionally, the design, inspired by neon art, perfectly conveys the energy and happiness that such moments inspire.
About the Stamp Design
The design features a striking neon-style rendering of the word “Celebrate,” surrounded by colorful fireworks. Notably, the artwork, crafted by fine artist Michael Flechtner, draws inspiration from a fireworks display, with its bright colors and dynamic motion embodying the spirit of a celebration. To create this effect, Flechtner worked with heated glass tubing, neon gas, and phosphor coatings, making this stamp one of the most visually striking ever issued.
First Day City
Furthermore, the First Day of Issue ceremony for this stamp took place in Kansas City, MO, on September 9, 2015.
History the Stamp Represents
Celebrations have always been a way to honor joyful events and milestones, bringing people together to share happiness. In addition, the U.S. Postal Service has long honored these occasions, beginning in 1987 with the release of a “Happy Birthday” stamp booklet. The 2015 “Celebrate!” stamp is the second in a series featuring neon designs, following the 2012 release. As a result, it continues the tradition of special occasion stamps that reflect the most cherished moments in life.
